So my hosting company contacted me with a notice that said I am violating my terms by using my hosting account to store files that are not associated with the site itself. Items in violation:
Music, videos, etc… So I deleted them. It’s not a big deal. I have the music in the 3 other places now. (External Hard Drive, USB Stick, & Blackberry). The videos were all crap I downloaded a couple of years ago to watch on my phone. I have since moved on from watching full length movies on my phone so, delete.
Well when I initially wrote the original Twitter Thursday blog I was thinking I was going to write every week. That didn’t happen but I thought I would give an update. That was 10 months ago and it is amazing how much twitter and the way I use it has changed. I pretty much read twitter several times a day in short bursts.
I have become what I would say “familiar” with my 725 twerps that I follow. I really cannot even fathom how I could keep up with more than that. I am really close to hitting a saturation point I think. For example, if there is a NASCAR press conference at the track, there is 6 of the 25 reporters there are racing to tell us all the same exact quote at the same exact time. Like a rubber stamp. That is when I start thinking, I don’t need to follow every NASCAR reporter on the planet do I? One of these guys would have gotten the information to me right? Then I think how I would lose those clever tweets of the others if I did do that.

Well it has been a while now since my failed upgrade from 2.7.1 to 2.8. I saved it by going back to 2.7.1. Since then I have had time to cool down and collect my thoughts on how to proceed. My problem is I don’t have a proper backup of the site. I usually post from my work laptop and can’t use that for a backup and I really have no other computer. So I have been thinking and reading about how to do a proper backup.
The easy way is to just download each and every file to a hard drive. The better way is to create a local server, basically a working, offline, copy of the site. I understand this can be a powerful blogging tool as it allows you an offline playground to test new plugins, themes, etc, before you decide to publish out there for real.
So I am going to try this at some point this year. If anyone reading this has done this before, met me know as I have many questions. Like this poor sap who couldn’t even find any help on it. I just know that is going to be me if I try.
