Kathy found some contest with the local newspaper. If you submit a funny photo of a kid they could be selected to be “Clown-of-the-Day” at a circus that is setup in the high school parking lot. So she sent in a picture of BreeAnna and forgot about it. Later on we found out she won the contest, would have her picture in the newspaper, 4 free tickets to the circus, & Bree would get to participate in the activities.
The circus is the Zoppe Circus which is a small, family-run, traditional, circus. It is the same as it was generations ago which gives it a very endearing quality. It was not commercialized like the Barnum’s where everywhere you turn they are selling something. It was a group of performers, mostly related, who live and work together, wandering about showing off their skills.
Bree was taken in the back, and made up to be a clown and coached on how to perform her parts in the show. Nervous, I am sure, she walked out with them into the ring and looked like she belonged among the carnies. Somehow, I was amazed, she got her part of the act done perfectly, like she had rehearsed for days.
